How to RELAX into Challenging Poses and Situations

In each Yoga Posture (asana), there is a duality between EFFORT and EASE.

ACTIVATION and RELAXATION.

I remind my students of this frequently.

Often times we think that the works stops once we ARRIVE in a pose. But in actuality, the physical posture is just the tip of the iceberg.

Once inside a pose, we can begin to refine all sorts of things. Is the body clenching or gripping to maintain the pose? Is the face relaxed? How hard is the mind HOLDING ON to remain in this posture?

I tell my students, if they cannot SMILE IN A POSE, back off.

Find that place where you can still find grace in the pose.

When was the last time you found yourself GRASPING, CLENCHING or SO DESIROUS of something that it made you temporarily desperate? This is a feeling all of us have experienced–pining after someone, an OUTCOME, an opportunity, a chance at something we REALLY WANT.

The next time you find yourself in this place, take a moment to simply IMAGINE WHAT IT WOULD FEEL LIKE TO ALREADY HAVE IT.

Imagine you already have the high paying job you’re looking for, the incredible boyfriend or girlfriend of your dreams, the house, the vacation – whatever it is.

You’ll find that this mental conjuring will allow a bit of ease.

The LAW OF ATTRACTION states ‘like attracts like’ and by focusing on positive states of mind, we can bring about positive change in our lives.

Focusing on the sensation of ALREADY HAVING brings our minds and bodies into a state of ABUNDANCE.

We move away from a SCARCITY state of mind and no longer have to hold so tightly to what we are either 1) afraid to lose or 2) afraid we will not receive.

Try these 3 EASY STEPS TO SHIFT from SCARCITY to ABUNDANCE

1) IDENTIFY what it is you REALLY WANT.

2) SEE IT, TASTE IT, FEEL IT in your body!

3) Spend the day walking around AS IF YOU ALREADY HAVE IT.
