My Favorite Green Smoothie
My Favorite Green Smoothie
Green Smoothies have been popular for almost a decade and I’ve tried all the ‘famous’ ones (GGS, etc.) but I just really like this one. It’s simple, refreshing and reminds me of a tropical drink, even though there’s no exotic fruit in it.
During the week I start work pretty early and don’t like to eat a heavy breakfast. Although this doesn’t have protein in it, it sustains me for a couple of hours due to the coconut oil, and doesn’t require any fancy ingredients.
You can whip it up in minutes, get some fuel into your body, and there’s minimal clean up.
I also like it because the base is water instead of a refrigerated milk and I don’t like cold drinks in the morning.
You could probably add some neutral tasting protein powder but I try to avoid heavily processed powders. I do use hempseeds and chia seeds sometimes, but in a different smoothie I’ll post later, with a soy milk base.
It is really important to use organic apples and greens as those are both crops which are heavily treated with pesticides.
INGREDIENTS
- 1 Banana
- 1/2 apple (organic)
- 1 large handful greens (organic – baby spinach, kale, romaine lettuce)
- 1/2 squeezed lime
- 1 C water
- 1 TBSP melted coconut oil (cold pressed, non refined, organic)
Blend until pureed a medium green color and serve!
