3 Ways To Move Heavy Emotions
3 Ways To Move Heavy Emotions
For some of us, the last five years have contained seismic change.
Our lives today may be better, but look different.
When seismic changes occur, there can be grief even amidst gratitude for how things turned out.
I am a huge believer that our bodies NEED to move all emotions, especially the heavier ones (grief, shame, regret, despair, hatred).
Emotion = Energy in Motion
Somatics is one way, and somatics is enjoying its moment these days.
If you can be in stillness for a few minutes, I encourage you to try the the Beginner one with no expectations.
EXPLORE IN THE POSES – Approach these with an open mind; see what might happen.
-Breathe deeply into front ribs, side ribs, back ribs.
Affirmation: I release all that does not serve me!
Affirmation: I release all hope that the past could be any different.
[And in so doing, I am free! I launch ALL of myself into the glory of this now moment. Fully embodied. Fully present. Fully noticing. Fully awake. Fully alive.]
3 Ways To Move Heavy Emotions
BEGINNERS
Roll a towel or yoga blanket to about 6-8″ thickness.
If using a yoga blanket: create a long skinny rectangle, bring fringe to fringe, then roll folded edge to fringe.
Set roll horizontally and place a MEDIUM block (or 2 pillows) behind your head.
Align the roll at the bottom edge of your shoulder blades–your shoulder heads should be off the roll.
Also note, the roll is NOT under your lumbar spine (small of your back).
Leg Options for all 3 Poses
-Thighs parallel, hip width apart.
-Set feet wide with knees touching at midline.
-Release legs down.
-Touch soles of feet together with pillows or blocks under the knees. (Cobbler’s Pose)
INTERMEDIATE
Set 2 blocks about 4-6″ from one another. Upper block is MEDIUM, lower block is LOW.
ADVANCED
Set 2 blocks at MEDIUM, horizontally about 6-8″ from one another.
FOLLOWING THE POSES
If you are feeling tender, take a Child’s Pose or Puppy Pose.
Do something kind for yourself now – however you define that.
Namaste,
Catherine
