31 Ways of Self Care
31 Ways of Self Care
Once upon a time a friend asked me for self care ideas because the generic – “light candles take bubble bath” – didn’t resonate with her.
I wondered if I could come up with 31 days of self care ideas—things I ACTUALLY DO OR HAVE DONE with regularity.
Here is that list.
31 Ways of Self Care
Inhale an Essential Oil for 10-15 breaths. I combine this one with this one.
Drop a few drops in your palm. Rub hands. Close eyes and breath deeply in and out through your nose. If it’s a minty blend, open your mouth too. I like to do this standing, in bare feet, so I can ground my feet at the same time.
Lay down in Supported Bound Angle Pose
Soak your feet in HOT water in a basin or on the edge of the tub for 5-10 minutes. Best before bed and especially if you have insomnia.
Do a full body (Abhyanga) massage. I sit on a bathmat and use whatever oil I have on hand. Mahanarayan oil is great for around the joints (knees, ankles, wrists and fingers). I’ve also used Almond, Jojoba and Prickly Pear. Tallow works great also. Then I wash it off in a bath or shower with a washcloth, no soap. [In the Ayurvedic tradition, Abhyanga is done with sesame oil for its grounding properties.]
Lay on Acupressure mat
Do Neck release (still point)
Do Vagus Nerve Reset
Use Chi Machine
Heat up buckwheat, lavender or rice pillows in the microwave and place them on your belly and chest while laying down.
Roll your feet on one of these Japanese roller things. I LOVE mine! This stimulates elimination and alertness; don’t do at night.
Get comfortable reclined or sitting and listen to Solfeggio Frequencies
Do a Restorative Anti-Aging pose like Legs Up The Wall or Modified version demo’d here
Build a Human Nest and do a Yoga Nidra video. That video is one of my favorites because background music is an OM chorus.
Do a Somatics or Yin Yoga video
Do full body dry brushing before or after a shower
Go for a silent walk or with your favorite podcast
Do an ear, temple and jaw massage with your fingers
Tap your thymus gland for 1 minute to boost immunity (center of your chest/sternum area)
Facial massage with oil and Gua Sha stone
Use Meridian Pressure Brush for belly massage, thigh massage and inseam of the legs. Dr. Laurel on IG does free lives where she demonstrates the techniques. She also sells the brushes, or you can buy something similar on Amazon.
Use Meridian Pressure Brush on inner and outer arm channels
Use Meridian Pressure Brush on scalp, hinge of jaw and sides of neck (My favorite of the brushing techniques).
While seated, do the Jumper Cable Hook Up with your wrists 1-3 minutes each wrap while deep breathing.
Go to an Infrared Sweat lodge place
Go to an in-person Sound Bath
Eat whatever food you feel like eg. dessert before dinner
Lay down and listen to a past life regression audiobook
Sunbathe (People obviously have differing opinions on this. I find a little bit of sun is very beneficial for me.)
Take an epsom salt bath. These give me energy, so perhaps try them earlier in the day. Or try a Dr. Singha’s Hot Mustard Bath. This will make you sweat. With both baths, drink a lot of water after.
Receive acupuncture or energy healing
Massage your feet, focusing on the spaces in between the toes, the arch and this point, LV3. The point is located on the top of the foot between big and 2nd toe. I like to use lavender whipped tallow for this.
If you try any of these 31 Ways of Self Care, let me know how it was for you.
Namaste,
Catherine & Satya
