THE QUEEN OF SELF-CARE

DSC00872THE QUEEN of Self-Care

I know a few women who really seem to have mastered the ART OF SELF-CARE.

I wish I knew more. And I hope to be on that list.

The woman I’m thinking of is an actress, and a filmmaker and a producer and a writer – she’s just supremely talented. She’s also a mother, a divorcee, and a lifelong meditator.

What I love about her most is that she is always so TICKLED PINK by her life. And it’s not some Pollyanna-ish glossing over of disappointments — because she’s had her share.

This woman is–

GENUNINELY

SUPREMELY

and POSITIVELY IN LOVE WITH HER LIFE.

And you know why?

She’s got one skill that all of us can learn from.

SHE IS TOTALLY ABLE TO MAKE HERSELF HAPPY.

Her PROJECTS bring her joy, even as they get stalled in post-production for years.

Her WRITING brings her joy because she cracks up on her own jokes. (She is a comedic actress).

Her SON brings her joy, in fact she has called him the ‘light of her life’.

And she owns her feelings. (If she feels other people’s energies impeding on her ability to make decisions, she meditates to ‘clear’ their energy from her aura.)

This woman is so refreshing to know.

Diane von Furstenberg said to women, ‘YOU HAVE TO BE YOUR OWN BEST FRIEND’ and this is so simple, and so true.

When was the last time you met someone who was truly lit up from within?

We can all start small…

Brainstorm a list of things which truly FEED YOUR SOUL. This might be hard at first, so try to recall when you last felt a sense of lightness. Or when you lost track of time.

WHAT WERE YOU DOING?

Cooking, meditating, yoga, a walk through nature, maybe even a heart-pounding run on a treadmill – all of these activities can help get us out of the thinking mind, and into the SENSORY REALM– the only place where pleasure resides.

YOGA is in itself a self-care ritual. Slowing down the mind and moving through a physical asana-based meditation naturally brings our attention inward.

Yogic philosophy posits that the source, the infinite, ‘God’ or whatever you want to call it, lies within us. Not outside us. So each time we come inside, we recharge and touch a tiny piece of that LIGHT. With continued practice, we are able to bring that sense of deep solidity, which comes from communion with the true self, off our mats and into the world.

What FEEDS YOUR SOUL?

I’d love to hear from  you!
