Your Calves Are Your Second Heart

Your Calves Are Your Second Heart

Did you know that your calves are your second heart?

This has been known in Chinese Medicine for a long time. Now the fitness and wellness world are catching on.

Your Calves Are Your Second Heart

Your calves are responsible for circulation in your body and so much more…

–Tight calves can limit your range of motion while folding forward

–Alter your foot strike when walking or running

–Contribute to back pain

–Cause night cramping

The calf is made of the Gastronemius and the Soleus.

Magically, there are 2 points along the Gastronemius that relieve low back pain – BL 56 & BL 57.

In this video I demonstrate 3 ways to release your calves with a textured foam roller. You could also do two out of the three releases with a pair of yoga tune up balls, or a pair of tennis balls in knotted sock.

The majority of people who reach out to me are seeking increased flexibility.

If you’ve done traditional hamstring stretches but feel you’re not progressing, try releasing your calves.

While you’re at, try rolling out the fascia in your feet with a ball as well.

After you’ve tried these all these things, re-test your forward fold!

Let me know how it worked for you.

Namaste,

Catherine
