AERIAL YOGA at Whole Life Balance
It’s good to try new things. Right?
I’d seen these pictures of long-limbed women hanging from the ceiling, writhing around in fabric, so I tried out an Aerial Yoga class today at Whole Life Balance.
Whole Life Balance is a brand new holistic health mecca in Santa Monica, the brainchild of former nightclub owner and promoter, Shane Griffin. A detour out of self-destruction took him to Passages in Malibu, and he was inspired to create Whole Life Balance as a center for holistic nutritional coaching and healing.
They have an incredible variety of CLASSES- all free through the month of July – which include Pilates, Yoga (Aerial, Power, Vinyasa) as well as a variety of healing modalities you can purchase a la carte like massage and fascial stretch therapy.
Lastly they have both online nutritional coaching as well as in-person wellness coaching programs.
So… Aerial Yoga…
Done with the assistance of gigantic loops of fabric, hung from the ceiling, called ‘silks’.
Thankfully our sweet instructor, Rony Ghoraishy went easy on us.
After some beginning warm-ups, we moved into psoas and hamstring stretches, using the silk more as a strap.
As class progressed, we ended up upside down, playing around like children. It was super fun.
After 24 years of practicing yoga, I feel pretty comfortable in any yoga class but I had no idea what to expect from this. Getting out of my comfort zone made it that much sweeter!
My favorite part of class was hanging out in the ‘pod’ in Savasana.
Highly recommend Rhony’s class and Whole Life Balance! If you’re in Santa Monica, be sure to check them out and say hi to resident mascot, Mr. Bronx!
Not ready to let go of the floor just yet
This actually feels pretty good.
