Beginners Welcome
Beginners Welcome
I maintain the best way to teach movement to beginners is through FEELING.
Not information download — ‘this pose is good for you.’
Not a choreography –‘remember this sequence.’
But simply guiding them through a FEELING produced in the class that also happens to improve flexibility, lower stress, rehab injuries and create lasting robustness, even vigor.
I tend to deal in information — the 300+ articles on my website are testament to my love of learning and healthy living.
But incentivizing beginners through information download, or overload, is not effective in my experience. Super motivated independent learners may benefit, but that demographic generally does not need someone like me.
Introducing beginners to yoga through FEELING strips away any need to remember, or be good at something.
The premise is ‘relaxed learning’ and this is the atmosphere I strive to create in my classes.
I believe yoga classes should not be ‘work’ in the beginning – they should be an experience.
With time, once the student is more committed, homework and practice is obviously required.
But when I’m working with beginners I don’t emphasize any of these things.
Experts say it takes 60 days to develop a new habit. Taking yoga classes from someone like me for 2 months will change your experience in your body. It will also empower you with tools, so without me you can relieve an achy back or a stiff neck, the kinds of aches and pains we all experience.
Empowering students to take their health into their own hands, to develop a set of tools to care for themselves, may be the most rewarding part of my profession.
If you are a beginner to yoga, consider private lessons 1:1 or duets. I’m here as your guide.
