Grilled Cabbage Steaks
We had probably the last heat wave of 2021 this past weekend and it got me grillin’. Demo here!
These grilled cabbage steaks are a blank canvas for whatever you please!
Keto friendly, they can be substituted for any dish you might nestle into mashed potatoes, pasta or rice!
I really, really love how many creative ideas I got from making these.
I went easy and topped them with a ready-made Tasty Bite meal, Punjab Eggplant and some chopped cilantro.
Using purple cabbage is exciting and you get such a beautiful plate, whatever toppings you choose.
Truly, the possibilities are endless.
PICKING A CABBAGE
Get one that is heavy to ensure tightly packed layers that won’t unravel during grilling.
PREPARATION
Turn the stem side to left or right and cut 1.5″ thick slices.
Oil with spray or brush, add salt & pepper.
**So many seasoning possibilities: lemon pepper, seasoned salt, smoked paprika, chimichurri…
Heat a gas grill with lid closed to 600F.
Place cabbage steaks down and reduce heat to medium. Close lid.
Grill for 4-5 min each side on medium heat.
Keep lid closed the duration of grilling.
Turn off flame and let sit, lid closed, for 5 more minutes. This will ensure the cabbage gets slightly steamed along with being grilled.
POSSIBILITIES
Add a fried egg and sriricha!
Top with meat based bolognese!
Top with tuna or chicken salad.
Add a chicken breast and creamy cashew or cheese sauce.
Top with Spicy Peanut Tofu.
