Leaning Into What Is
Leaning Into What Is
I think it was Byron Katie who said you suffer when you argue with what is.
There are so many ways this shows up in our lives.
I’ll talk about myself.
I have never liked fall and winter. The shortened hours of daylight, bitter cold, bare trees, and wrangling all the layers you must wear; it seems like most of my life living on the East Coast I railed against this. After moving from CA to KY last year, I especially felt the inner protest.
I was frozen to my bones – no matter what I wore, did in terms of exercise or diet, my bone marrow seemed frozen solid; I could not warm up.
I dreamed of hightailing it to Florida, roasted myself in hot yoga studios and infrared spas, in constant argument with the weather and its affect on my body. And I suffered.
It sounds ridiculous as I write this. There is far greater suffering in the world, but I’ve accepted that we can’t quantify suffering from one person to another. Most of us are prisoners of subjectivity; unless you’re an extremely high level empath, what you’re currently experiencing IS your reality.
This year I’m trying a different approach.
I’m leaning into what is.
Trying to appreciate the quietude of the fall and the appearance of lowered productivity. I’m looking into the scary void that is dormancy. Although it’s mid-November, irises are emerging in my backyard, readying for victorious bloom in June. I doubt they’re arguing with their glacial growth rate.
I’m attempting to go to bed earlier and wake earlier. Eating less and cooking more. Being indoors more with less fresh air is especially hard for me, but I’m wearing down coats and going for pitch black night walks with Satya. She LOVES it! No more fire ants, fleas and mosquitoes to annoy us! It’s heaven on earth for the double coated, long haired Starseed.
What are you struggling with that might be lessened by leaning in?
Arguing less and just accepting…?
I’d love to hear it.
Namaste,
Catherine & Satya
