Summer Melon Coolers
Summer Melon Coolers
Farmer’s Markets are literally bursting with melons right now and as the heat rises, I’ve been making all sorts of melon inspired drinks.
In Chinese medicine, we are currently in the most Yang season of the year — July 17-August 17. Eating cooling melons is a perfect way to stay balanced, and blending them (while keeping the pulp) is healthy, refreshing and easy.
All you need are some ripe melons and a hi-speed blender.
Here are 3 melon coolers I’ve been enjoying this summer.
INGREDIENTS
- Ripe melons (watermelon and cantaloupe are easiest to find). Blend in hi-speed blender and leave unstrained. Don’t overblend because you don’t want to heat up the juice.
- Filtered water or sparkling water
- Apple Cider Vinegar (I like Bragg’s)
- Pink Salt (I like Premier Research Labs)
- Lavender Honey (I like Rivendell’s Raw Honey)
- Cayenne Pepper
Galia Cooler
MELON COOLER (Makes 12 Cups)
- 4 C melon juice
- 8 C filtered water or sparkling water
Watermelon Gatorade
MELON COOLER ‘GATORADE’ (Makes 4 Cups)
Of these 3, this is my absolute favorite. It’s sweet, sour and salty. If you love the tangy brine of pickle juice, you’ll love this. Did you know that the salt, sugar and vinegar in pickle juice is considered a sports drink equivalent or equal to Gatorade?
I drink this after running in heat, hot yoga or sweat lodging — this drink really helps with muscle cramps.
- 2 C filtered water

MELON COOLER ‘MADAME CLEANSE’ (Makes 4 Cups)
- 4 C filtered water
- 1/4 C melon juice
- 4 TBSP ACV
- 1 TBSP lavender honey
